September 13, 2005 - The Midwest League has released its 2006 schedule and the Cedar Rapids Kernels will open their 45th season in the league on the road Thursday, April 6, against the Beloit Snappers.
The Kernels will open the home portion of the team's schedule with a noon contest against the Chicago Cubs' Midwest League affiliate, the Peoria Chiefs, on Monday, April 10.
The Kernels will play 70 games at Veterans Memorial Stadium in 2006, including home dates on Father's Day and the Fourth of July. The schedule features 8 home dates in April; 15 in May; 14 in June; 17 in July; and 16 in August.
In addition to the home opener, the Kernels have five noon games scheduled for a total of six. The dates are: Friday, May 5; Tuesday, May 23; Tuesday, June 13; Tuesday, July 18; and Tuesday, August 8.
Kane County will host the Kernels for the final regular season series of 2006 from September 1-4 with the Midwest League playoffs scheduled to begin September 6th.
For the 14th consecutive year the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will supply the Kernels with talent for the 2006 season.
