Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays turned their focus to customer service, an improved in-game experience and solid nightly promotions to bring their season attendance to 107,405 during 65 openings in 2005. For the first time since 1999, the season total topped 100,000 fans.
The Devil Rays were rewarded with more than 2,300 fans in attendance on 13 separate occasions in 2005. A capacity crowd of 6,003 attended the first Saturday game in June on the 11th to mark the largest crowd of the season. The second best draw was the only fireworks show of June on the 24th when 5,107 fans returned to C.O. Brown Stadium. The third most-attended game of the year was on July 23 for another fireworks show when 4,152 people paid to watch the double-header with West Michigan.
"We were very pleased to see area fans respond to our new attitude, Family Fun Park and other events at the stadium that made this a destination of fun in 2005," Devil Rays General Manager Martie Cordaro said. "The 12 percent attendance increase in our first season is exhilirating for us and Ivy Walls Management Company. We look forward to many more exciting seasons in Southwest Michigan."
The Devil Rays average attendance of 1,652 was the largest since 1997 when the Michigan Battle Cats drew 2,082 per opening.
