Cedar Rapids, Iowa-Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Manuel Flores and two relievers combined to scatter seven hits as the Kernels completed a three-game sweep of the Dayton Dragons with a 6-2 victory on Monday. The Dragons completed their 10-game road trip with a 3-7 record and fell to 6-12 in the second half. They return home Wednesday.

Dragons starting pitcher Matt Fairel (6-5) was outstanding over the first five innings, allowing just two base runners while striking out seven. But the Kernels got to Fairel for four hits and three runs in the sixth to take the lead after the Dragons had jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning.

Cody Puckett belted a two-run home run for Dayton in the first, his 14th homer of the year.

Fairel retired 14 of the first 15 batters, allowing only a harmless bunt single in the third. But Cedar Rapids scored once against Fairel in the fifth to pull to within one at 2-1 before their big inning in the sixth that gave them the lead for good. The Kernels added two runs against Dragons reliever Aguido Gonzalez in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Dayton finished with seven hits but they had only one after the fifth inning. Andrew Means went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored.

The Dragons (6-12, 34-54) return home to Fifth Third Field on Wednesday to take on the Quad Cities River Bandits. Curtis Partch (5-7, 5.08) will start for Dayton against Arquimedes Nieto (1-7, 4.62).
