Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa - David Wood flared a two-run single into shallow left field to cap off a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, sending the Burlington Bees (8-9; 37-50) to a 7-4 comeback win over the Lansing Lugnuts (5-12; 31-55) on Monday night at Community Field.
The Lugnuts built leads of 3-0 and 4-3 before falling, losing two of three games in the series to end a 1-4 Iowa road-trip.
Dustin Antolin (0-4) suffered the loss, loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh with none out before walking in the game-tying run. Boomer Potts relieved him and coaxed a grounder to third from Jason Taylor, only to see a Balbino Fuenmayor error allow the go-ahead run to score. Wood followed with a bloop to left, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Riquy Pena (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief for Burlington, with Blaine Hardy earning his third save with a perfect ninth.
Lugnuts starter Chris Holguin gave up three runs on five hits, three walks, three wild pitches, and three strikeouts to take a no-decision in his Midwest League debut.
In the losing cause, Johermyn Chavez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Mike McDade added a single, RBI double, and a pair of walks in four plate appearances.
The Lugnuts are off on Tuesday for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game before beginning a six-game homestand on Wednesday with the opener of a three-game series vs. Cedar Rapids. Lansing right-hander Chad Beck (1-4, 6.18) takes the hill at Oldsmobile Park, opposed by Kernels right-hander Tyler Chatwood (3-5, 4.36).
