Kernels Announce 2011 Field Staff

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, announce their field staff for the 2011 season.

Returning for his third season and first as Kernels manager is Brent Del Chiaro. The Oakley, CA native was selected by the Angels in the 41st round of the 2001 Free Agent Draft and played for the Kernels in 2002, posting a .213 BA with nine RBI in 37 games. Brent was the Kernels Hitting Coach in 2009 and 2010. Previously, he was the hitting coach for the Orem Owlz and was the bullpen catcher for the Angels in 2007.

Former Major League pitcher Trevor Wilson makes his debut as the Kernels Pitching Coach. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 8th round of the 1985 Free Agent Draft and played eight seasons in the majors, posting a 41-46 record and 3.87 ERA in 169 games. He is the only pitcher in the history of the Giants (NY or SF) to strike out three batters on nine pitches and threw a complete game two-hit shutout against Houston on June 7, 1992. He was a coach in the Giants organization before joining the Angels and was the Pitching Coach at Tempe in 2009 and 2010.

Mike Eylward returns to Cedar Rapids as the Kernels Hitting Coach. He played for the Kernels in 2001 and 2002 after being drafted by the Angels in the 44th round of the 2001 Free Agent Draft. In 2002, he hit .263 with 8 HR and 43 RBI in 98 games for the Kernels. He played eight seasons in the minors and has been the hitting coach for the Orem Owlz the past two seasons (2009-10).

Eric Munson returns to Cedar Rapids as the Kernels Athletic Trainer. Eric was the Kernels Athletic Trainer in 2005 and 2006 and prior to joining the Angels organization he served as the athletic trainer for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders hockey team of the United States Hockey League. He is a 2004 graduate of North Dakota State University and was the trainer for the Arkansas Travelers in 2010.

The Kernels open the tenth season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 11 at 6:35 pm against the Wisconsin TimberRattlers. Season tickets and 10-game anytime coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com, or in person at the stadium. Individual game tickets go on sale Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10 am.
