Kernels and Twins announce a series of roster moves before today's DH with Peoria

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Brian Rapp has been placed on the 7-day injured list with a lower back strain; RHP Tyler Palm has been assigned to Elizabethton; LHP J.T. Perez joins the Kernels from Elizabethton; and RHP Frandy Torrres joins from the GCL Twins. Brian Maloney, Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the moves.

The Twins selected Perez in the 29th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. He split time last season between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton, posting a combined 1-1 record and 4.57 ERA in 15 relief appearances. In 21.2 IP, he allowed 25 hits and 15 runs (11 earned) with 13 walks and 28 strikeouts.

The Twins singed Torres as a non-drafted free agent on May 30, 2016 and he spent last season with the GCL Twins where he posted a 2-1 record and 3.38 ERA in 15 relief appearances. In 18.2 IP, he allowed 16 hits and 7 runs (all earned) with 11 walks and 24 strikeouts.

Rapp last pitched on June 8 at Peoria. He has made 15 appearances this season, including one start, posting a 2-0 record and 5.40 ERA. In 31.2 IP, he allowed 34 hits and 20 runs (19 earned) with 19 walks and 29 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 26th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Boston College.

Palm has made 11 appearances for the Kernels this season, including six starts, and last pitched on June 7 at Peoria. He has posted a 1-4 record and 5.21 ERA and in 38 IP, he allowed 42 hits and 29 runs (22 earned) with 14 walks and 35 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on June 13, 2018.

Perez and Torres are active and available for today's 1:00 PM DH at Peoria. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with four players on the injured list.

The Kernels continue a 14-game road trip this afternoon at 1:00 PM with a DH at Peoria. The current road trip continues through Monday, June 10th and the Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, June 11th to host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 PM.
