Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Austin, Texas- Two third period goals by Austin Ice Bats center Jason Kenyon proved to be the difference in the game as the Ice Bats defeated the Fort Worth Brahmas 3-2 at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin.
Thanks to goals from Austin's Gerald Tallaire and Fort Worth's Matt Reynolds, the third period began with the score tied at 1. Kenyon put the Bats on top 2-1 when he banged in the rebound of a Mike Tucciarone shot at the 4:10 mark of the third. Just over five minutes later, at the 9:51 mark, Kenyon converted a centering pass from Austin winger Jeff Neufeld by blasting a shot from between the circles past the glove hand of Fort Worth goalie Larry Sterling.
The gutty Brahmas, playing with just thirteen skaters due to injury problems, refused to wilt. An astounding individual move by Fort Worth center Cory Stillman at the 16:18 mark of the third pulled the Brahmas to within a goal at 3-2. Stillman worked the puck past Ice Bats defenseman Jonathan Jolette on the left wing side of the Austin zone and then lifted a shot past Austin goaltender Matt Barnes.
Unfortunately for Fort Worth, the Brahmas could not use the Stillman goal as the springboard for a comeback. Despite pulling Sterling for the final 42 seconds of the game, the Brahmas failed to get the tying goal.
Sterling made 39 saves in defeat for Fort Worth. Barnes stopped 34 of the 36 Brahmas shots he faced to get the win.
The loss for the Brahmas, their third in a row, puts the Fort Worth record at 12-22-5 on the season. The win for Austin, their sixth consecutive victory, squares the Bats record at 18-18-3 for the year.
Fort Worth will be in action on Saturday night, January 28, when they travel to Bossier City, Louisiana to battle the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Saturday night's game can be heard live on KHFX Fox Sports 1460 AM beginning at 6:50 p.m.
