Cotton Kings Game Night Preview vs. Oklahoma City
1/27/06 - OKLAHOMA CITY BLAZERS (22-16-1) @ LUBBOCK COTTON KINGS (16-18-1) - 7:05 AM LUBBOCK MUNICIPAL COLISEUM
BACK ON THE ICE
The Lubbock Cotton Kings, who have played three games over the last 15 days, begin a three-in-three weekend set tonight hosting the Oklahoma City Blazers. The Blazers are playing their second game of a four-game road trip and seeking to end a five-game road winless streak. The Cotton Kings are seeking wins to climb out of third place in the Southwest Division, entering the week four standing-points behind Amarillo and 11 behind Odessa. Amarillo hosts Wichita tonight, while Bossier-Shreveport is in Odessa.
This is the second of four meetings between the two teams this season, with each team hosting two of the contests. OKC has the Kings number, winning 8 of the 9 all-time meetings. They won the previous meeting back on November 12th 1-0 in an overtime shootout. It stands as the only game in Cotton Kings history to end with a 1-0 overtime result. Garrett Prosofsky registered the shootout game winning goal and has the only point offensively in the series. Lubbock's all-time series leader against Oklahoma City is Paul Fioroni, who has a goal and four assists for 5 points in 6 games, while Oklahoma City's all-time leader is retired Hardy Sauter, who had three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 8 games.
THE LAST TIME
11/12/05 - Oklahoma City goaltender Sebastien Centomo outlasted Lubbock Cotton Kings goaltender Lance Leslie, as the Blazers shutout the Kings 1-0 in an overtime shootout decision in front of 5,541 fans at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
65 minutes was not enough to decide the outcome and in the shootout, Jared Dumba and Garrett Prosofsky converted on their shootout attempts for Oklahoma City through the first four rounds and Bobby Brown had the Kings only tally. Mike Lukajic was able to skate in and beat the glove-side of Lance Leslie and seal the victory for the Blazers in the fifth round.
The last time the Cotton Kings faced Centomo was in the 01/02 season as a member of the Memphis River Kings and he ironically defeated the Kings in a shootout. He has since been to the NHL with Toronto and back, and tonight he stopped 53 shots on goal from the Lubbock Cotton Kings for the win. The shutout was his tenth of his pro career and first as a member of the Blazers.
Lance Leslie takes the hard-luck overtime loss and has his record go to 4-4-1. He statistically went into the books stopping all 30 Blazers shots on goal in 65 minutes of play, but does not receive a shutout (shootout goal is not credited against his statistics).
Lubbock is without the services of goaltender Brett Koscielny, who is on the injured reserve list, and added goaltender Tyson Gajda to the roster. The Blazers are without forward Garrett Prosofsky (leave of absence) and Sebastien Centomo, who is currently serving a call-up to the American Hockey League's (AHL) Manitoba Moose.
