Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles remained undefeated against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees winning 4-2. The game tied the Central Hockey League record of 82 consecutive sellouts at the Budweiser Events Center where the Eagles have never played to an unpacked house. Colorado's goaltender Jeff Blair won his third consecutive game stopping 30 of 32 and was the backbone of the Eagles defense that stopped all six of Amarillo's power plays. Four different Eagles players scored as they improved their record to 28-8-4 and remain in first place in the Northwest Division.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the game for the 27th time this season when Garrett Larson left a trailer for Scott Polaski and he snapped a wrist shot above the glove of Killer Bees' goaltender Evan Lindsay. The goal marked Polaski's seventh of the season giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Killer Bees center Matic Kralj tied the game for the visitors at the 15:54 mark of the period on an assist from Darcy Smith. The 1-1 tie didn't last long as Eagles captain Greg Pankewicz scored his team-leading 10th power play goal of the season when he jammed in the puck underneath the leg pad of Lindsay, he was assisted by Fraser Filipic and Sean Robertson. After one period of play, the Eagles were being out shot 15-8 but held a 2-1 lead.

The only goal in the second period was a shorthanded breakaway goal by Eagles rookie Garrett Larson. He faked to the backhand and easily slid the forehand in the net to take a 3-1 lead. Aaron Grosul and Matt Desrosiers assisted on the play. Larson's goal stood to be the game winning goal although the teams matched goals in the third period.

Bill Newson cut the Eagles lead to one goal only 4:36 into the third period but that would be the closest the Bees would get. Sean Robertson added an empty net goal to cap the Eagles victory. The two teams faceoff again Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center where the Eagles will break the CHL record with their 83rd consecutive sellout.
