The Bucks took control of the hockey game with a three goal outburst in the first period. Ladislav Kouba got the scoring started with a shot from the top of the slot that beat Brent Zelenewich high in the right corner. With the score 1-0, a big turning point in the game came when Bucks forwards Igor Agarunov threw an elbow to the head of Rayz defenseman Tim Laurila. The elbow went uncalled, and Laurila was helped off the ice, Moments later, at the 6:51 mark of the period, Brent Cullaton took a pass and sped down the right side in on Zelenewich and scored giving the Bucks a 2-0 lead. During the celebration, Rayz Head Coach Ken McRae - still protesting the non-call against Agarunov - threw a water bottle off the ice and was ejected from the game. The Bucks capped the first period scoring when Jeff Bes slammed home a rebound at 15:26 to make the score 3-0 Bucks. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 12-8 in the opening period.
In the second period, the Rayz changed netminder, but the Bucks continued their offensive attack. Laredo added three more goals to increase their lead. After Zelenewich was pulled in favor of Mark Cairns, the Bucks scored the first goal of the CHL season against the Rayz relief netminder. Chris Grenville tallied on the power play at 6:45 of the second period to make it 4-0. The Bucks added another goal at 10:25 on the power play when Adam Rivet blasted a shot through traffic from the blue line. Just 39 seconds later, the Bucks scored again when Kouba got his second of the game. The Bucks took a 6-0 lead into the second period break.
The Buckas tacked on two third period goals to complete the one-sided victory. Steve Simoes scored on a power play 5:59 into the third, and Cullaton got his second of the game 11:07 of the third to complete the scoring. The Rayz suffered their third straight loss by shutout, and their scoreless streak now moves to 182:45. The loss was the Rayz fourth straight this season against Laredo. With the win, the Bucks improved their winning streak to four games. The Rayz will play the Bucks eight more times this season in their final 26 games. Corpus Christi is 2-20 all-time at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 33-28. Corpus Christi went 0-11 on the power play. Laredo went 3-7. Zelenewich's record fell 6-9-1, giving up three goals on 12 shots. Cairns did not figure into the decision, giving up five goals on 21 shots. Lemanowicz improved his record to 11-2-1 with the shutout win.
