BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Kent Simpson has been reassigned from the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL.

Simpson, 22, started the year on the Sound Tigers roster but was sent to the ECHL prior to the season opener against the St. John's IceCaps. The netminder is in the final year of an NHL entry-level contract.

The Islanders acquired the 6-foot-3 Simpson in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks in which they also received Nick Leddy. The Blackhawks received Ville Pokka, T.J. Brennan and Anders Nilsson in the deal.

Originally a second round draft pick in 2010 by the Blackhawks, the Edmonton native has played in three games with the Eagles this season. He currently has a 3.71 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.
