Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, WA – Former Spokane Indians Manager Darryl Kennedy has been named the new Manager of the Frisco RoughRiders, the Texas Rangers AA affiliate in the Texas League. Kennedy joined the Indians in 2003 and quickly led the Indians to the their sixth Northwest League Championship. Kennedy, who has been in the Rangers system for eight years, will join the RoughRiders for the 2005 season. The Riders won the 2004 Texas League Championship under manager Tim Ireland.

A native of Bradenton, Florida, Kennedy has guided six of his seven teams to the post-season, including four championship teams. After a 50-26 campaign in 2003 that saw the Indians pull off a 3-0 sweep of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes for the Northwest League Championship, Kennedy was named the Northwest League Manager Of The Year, as well as being named Short-Season Manager Of The Year by Baseball America.

Kennedy guided the 2004 Indians to a 41-35 record and a second place finish in the Northwest League Eastern Division, just one game back of the eventual league champion Boise Hawks. In his two years at the helm of the Indians, Kennedy led the Indians to a 94-61 record, the best in the Northwest League over that span. Darryl and his wife Beth have a son Cade and a daughter Ehma.

The Rangers also announced that former Indians Pitching Coach Dave Chavarria has been named the Pitching Coach for the Bakersfield Blaze, the Rangers new High-A affiliate in the California League. In each of the past two seasons with the Indians, Chavarria's pitching staffs have had the lowest team ERA in the Northwest League.

The Texas Rangers will announce a replacement for Kennedy in the near future. Ticket packages to see the 2005 Spokane Indians in action are on sale now. To reserve your seats today, call the Indians at (509) 535-2922 and be sure to Make It An Indian Summer!
