Kennedy Leads Wings Past Thunder

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (21-21) took game two of the series, thanks to another great pitching performance from Brett Kennedy who earned his fifth win of the year quieting the Texas Thunder (14-28) with a 5-1 win Friday night at Harlingen field.

Starting pitcher Brett Kennedy (5-1) earned his United League lead fifth win. Kennedy pitched seven strong innings scattering just three hits and allowing just one run.

It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the fourth inning when Goose Kallunki and Kevin Lusson hit back to back singles.

Andrew Deeds hit a sharp ground ball to the short stop Jorge Bishop who air mailed the throw over Ramon Geronimo scoring Deeds and Lusson giving the Wings a 2-0 lead.

The Thunder's lone run came off a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth inning that would be the only run surrendered from Kennedy.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Deeds and Troy Zawadzki scored on a dropt third strike called, Jonathan Perea air mailed the ball over Ramon Geronimo adding two more runs to the Wings lead, making it 4-1.

Albert Carpen would later score on an RBI single from Roberto Ramirez extending the lead to 5-1.

RGV would hold on from there taking game two of the four game series, the win brings the Wings back to the .500 mark at 21-21 on the year.

Andrew Deeds finished with a three hit night going 3-for-4 along with two RBI's.

Game three of the four game series is set for Saturday as the Wings send Ray Hanson to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
