
Early Runs Enough for Aces

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana - The Alexandria Aces used a seven run third to defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 10-1 on Friday night at Bringhurst Field.
The Aces (23-19) scored in the bottom of the first inning when Josh Band singled and later scored on a Nick Mahin single to make 1-0. Austin Newell would hit a single to move Mahin to third base. Newell advanced to second on a walk to Chad Bunting which loaded the bases for Travis Clark. Clark responded with two run single which made a 3-0 game.
In the third inning, Alexandria would load the bases with one out but it would be Alex Foltz that would provide the damaging hit with a two run single to make it a 5-0 game. Then a throwing error allowed Foltz to score as well Band and Newell to make it 8-0. Mahin and Newell each drove in runs to make it 10-0.
The Roadrunners (19-23) their lone scored run in the eighth inning when Tim Maitland reached on a single and moved over to second base on a single by Fernando de los Santos. Trevor Whyte would hit a single to drive in Maitland to make it a 10-1 game.
Dan Schmidt (4-1) earned the win for the Aces throwing eight innings allowing an earned run, while Austin Fraker (1-1) took the loss for the Roadrunners throwing two inning and a third.
The Roadrunners will play game three of the four game series against the Aces on Saturday night at Bringhurst Field with the first pitch at 7:05 pm.
The next Roadrunners home game will be on Tuesday, July 9th, when they host the McAllen Thunder for a four game series.
