SECOND SEASON SUB-PLOTS

The Stingrays scored six goals in the first two periods to beat the Cyclones in game one 7-4 and take a 1-0 series lead.

South Carolina had more shots in the first period (15) in last night's game than they had all of game six against Florida through regulation and OT (14).

Matt Scherer scored his team leading seventh and eighth goals of the playoffs last night; he is tied for second in the league in post season goals.

THE REST ON THE QUEST

The Alaska Aces took down the Las Vegas Wranglers last night in game one of their best-of-seven game series 2-0.

Aces' Jean-Philippe Lamoureux has tied the ECHL record with 12 shutouts, including record eight in the regular season. Maxime Gingras of Richmond had 12 shutouts in 1998-99 while setting the regular season record with seven and the postseason record with five.

Mark Van Guilder scored on a penalty shot in the third period. That was the tenth penalty shot attempt in the playoffs thus far, and just the second that has gone in.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

In 1997, on their way to winning their first Kelly Cup Championship, the Rays did something that has yet to be matched in the Kelly Cup Finals. In game four against Louisiana, they scored five power play goals in the game, something that no other team has been able to do.
