Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Swamp Bats pitching staff limited North Adams to just two on Tuesday night, as they defeated the Steeplecats at Alumni Field 3-1.
David Sosebee, out of the University of Georgia, had another fantastic start for Keene.
The right-hander limited North Adams to just one run in six innings. Sosebee surrendered just two hits and two walks, along with eight strikeouts.
The Steeplecats scored first in this one, tallying a run in the top of the third off of a Joe Landi RBI double.
The Swamp Bats answered right away, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the third.
Matt Ford, out of Hofstra University, drove in two runs with a two RBI double, which momentarily put Keene up 2-1. His college teammate Robbie Cafiero picked three hits on the night, raising to .351 on the summer.
Keene would put one more up on the board the next inning from a St. Johns' Zach Lauricella sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 Swamp Bat lead.
Matthew Clancy, a teammate of Lauricella's at St Johns, threw two scoreless inning of relief in the seventh and eight and James Connell, out of Kennesaw State, nailed down the coffin with a perfect ninth, earning his seventh save of the season.
The victory puts Keene (25-14) two full games above Vermont for the first place in the Western Division with just three games remaining for both clubs.
The Swamp Bats will hit the road on Wednesday night, where they will face the Laconia Muskrats in Laconia for the first time this season.
