New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
The New Bedford Bay Sox hit three home runs Tuesday afternoon at Robbie Mills Field to beat the Laconia Muskrats 13-6.
A Max Nogay (West Virginia) grand slam, Chris Travers (Roger Williams) solo shot and Chris Shaw (Boston College) two run homer, accounted for more than half of the Bay Sox runs.
New Bedford broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth and didn't look back.
Nogay drove a two out pitch from Miles Veth (Wheaton) over the left field wall for a grand slam to give the Bay Sox a 6-1 lead. It was Nogay's third home run of the season and the first grand slam for the Bay Sox. Prior to that at-bat, Chris Shaw hit an RBI infield single, his fifth game in a row with an RBI.
The Muskrats answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a 5-4-3 double play and a bloop-single by Ryan McBroom (West Virginia) to make it 6-3.
The Bay Sox added three more runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Alex Witkus (Fairfield) and Lane Richards (Notre Dame), and a sacrifice fly from Travers.
Laconia made it 9-5 in the bottom of the sixth with RBI singles from Nick Freeberger (Hartford CC) and Rob Koski (Hartford CC),
Travers got the scoring started in the top of the fourth with his first home run of the season. Travers gave the Bay Sox a 1-0 lead with a solo shot to left field, just to the right of the Laconia green monster.
Joey Bielek (Arizona State) and the Muskrats tied the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Bielek doubled off the right field wall, missing a home run by a couple of inches, to score Jake Peevyhous (Arizona State) from first.
The Bay Sox added four more runs in the eighth. Two of those runs coming from a two run homer from Shaw over the right field fence, his fifth of the season.
New Bedford tacked on three more runs in the ninth to make it a 16-6 final.
The Bay Sox are now 19-22 and travel to Sanford to take on the Mainers at 6:30 PM.
