Bay Sox Doubled up by Sanford

July 30, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

The New Bedford Bay Sox fell just short to the Sanford Mainers Tuesday night at Goodall Park losing 4-2.

Bay Sox starter Adam Fournier (Franklin Pierce) seemed to lose the strike zone in the bottom of the fourth, walking two and allowing a single to load the bases. With one out, Fournier walked Billy Bereszniewicz (Binghamton) to bring in the first run of the game.

Fournier minimized the damage with back-to-back strikeouts to strand the bases loaded.

Sanford made it a 3-0 game in the bottom of the fifth with RBI singles from Anthony Papio (U of Maryland) and Scott Heath (U of Maine), off of Bay Sox reliever Nick Friar (Northwestern).

New Bedford got two runs across in the top of the seventh.

Andrew Dundon (Marshall) led the inning off with a double down the left field line. He scored on a fielding error by the Mainers first baseman, Nic Wilson (Georgia St.), to make it 3-1. With two outs and runners on first and second, Max Nogay (West Virginia) singled through the left side of the infield to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

The Mainers added an insurance run in the eighth on a Wilson RBI triple off the center field wall.

With the loss, the Bay Sox move to 19-23 on the year. New Bedford has an off day tomorrow and will travel to Newport Thursday.
