WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continue to stockpile non-import talent with today's signings of receiver Jeff Keegan and linebacker Brad Newman.

As per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Keegan (6-3, 210, Guelph, DOB: Oct. 26, 1983 in Winnipeg, MB) was the second leading receiver on the University of Guelph Gryphons in 2006. He finished the season with 757 yards on 48 receptions, which ranked him third in the Ontario University Athletics Conference. Those numbers earned him OUA Second-Team All-Star honours for the second straight year. In 2005, Keegan hauled in 40 receptions for 946 yards and six TDs.

Keegan, who was raised in Portage la Prairie before moving to London, Ont. as a youngster, ranks second on the Gryphons' all-time receiving yardage list with 1,960 yards.

"Jeff Keegan was an outstanding university receiver during his career at Guelph," said Blue Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman. "We think he is a solid addition to our receiving corps and we are looking forward to see what he has to offer at training camp."

Newman (6-1, 210, British Columbia, DOB: Sept. 18, 1981 in New Westminster, B.C.) earned a reputation as a hard-nosed warrior as a member of the University of B.C. Thunderbirds. In 2006 he led UBC in tackles with 51, which ranked him fourth in the Canada West Conference. He also collected four quarterback sacks, which ranked him second among UBC defenders.

Newman, who played both middle and outside linebacker with the Thunderbirds, was considered a top pick heading into last year's CFL draft but was rule ineligible for the draft because of a paperwork snafu.

"Brad Newman is a tough, physical player," Taman said. "He brings a lot of good qualities to our team including the fact that he is an outstanding special teams player."
