Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Former Kansas City Kansas Community College star Jimmy Mojica drove in four runs for the Kansas City T-Bones (4-1) tonight as they took game one of a three-game set against the Schaumburg Flyers (1-4), 8-2.
The T-Bones took a quick 1-0 lead against Dustin Glant (1-1) with three straight one-out singles in the first inning, the third an RBI base hit by Ray Sadler. Both teams remained scoreless until a solo home run by Jacob Blackwood pushed the score to 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
After four scoreless frames from Cody McAllister, Schaumburg drew consecutive walks to begin the bottom of the fifth. Following a sacrifice bunt by Travis Brown, Steven Stewart (2-0) entered for Kansas City and struck out his first batter before Chris Schultz tied the game with a two-run single. Stewart retired the next batter with a fly out to end the frame.
McAllister was charged with two runs on four hits in four and one-thirds innings in a no-decision.
Kansas City re-took the lead in the sixth on a two-run single by Mojica that chased Glant from the contest. Glant suffered the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings.
Stewart left with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh, but Kyle Dahman induced a fly out to end the threat. Stewart earned the victory after allowing just two hits over two and one-thirds scoreless innings. Dahman closed out the game for the T-Bones, surrendering just one hit in two and one-thirds scoreless frames for his first save of the season.
The T-Bones added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Mojica. They capped off the scoring at 8-2 with a three-run ninth, plating the first run on a solo home run by Rico Washington, his first of the season. Ryan Fox added the second tally with an RBI double and Mojica finished off the frame with an RBI single.
Mojica tied a career-high with his four RBI night, ending the contest two-for-four.
The two teams face off again tomorrow night as right-hander Dewon Brazelton takes the mound for Kansas City against former T-Bone Todd Moser for the Flyers. First pitch is set for 6:30. Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
