Flyers Lose Home Opener, Extend Losing Streak to Four
May 25, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Schaumburg, IL -- It wasn't quite the home opener that the Flyers were hoping for here in the 2010 season. On a day of celebration for Flyers fans seeing their team at home for the first time and the announcement of the Atlanta Braves buying Antoan Richardson's contract, the Flyers fall 8-2 to the Kansas City T-Bones, extending their losing streak to four games.
Tonight was not a great night for the Flyers hitting. The team had a total of only two runs and seven hits throughout the night and had a team strikeout total of nine. There was one bright spot, however. Chris Schultz shined once again, going two for four with two RBIs and a walk and Richard Mercado had another nice night with a single and a walk, along with a hard-hit ball right at Kansas City second baseman Jake Blackwood.
Flyers starting pitcher Dustin Glant began the game with a little trouble, giving up 3 hits in a row in the top of the first and allowing a run. But the righty settled down after just letting one man cross the plate. He went on to give up just three more runs in a losing effort in five and two third innings pitched. The relief pitching for the Flyers didn't fare much better, giving up four more runs to the Kansas City hitters in the eighth and ninth innings.
Tomorrow the Flyers will try to end the four game slide and even the series with Kansas City up at one game apiece. First pitch set for 6:30 CT.
