
Kaye Officially Named to Royals General Manager Post

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that Gordon Kaye has been named general manager/ governor for the Reading Royals Hockey Club. Kaye had been placed in Reading in May of this year by SMG following the resignation of Ray Delia.
Prior to accepting the Royals general manager post, Kaye held the position of vice president of business strategy and development for SMG, the largest facility operating and management company in the world. His focus was to evaluate new business opportunities and manage new arena development projects for the company.
The New York, New York native spent five years with the National Basketball Association as the director of team technology. His responsibilities included assisting the NBA, WNBA and NBDL teams in identifying, developing and implementing new technology-related initiatives with a focus on ticket sales and marketing programs. Kaye also coordinated all aspects of the NBA's relationship with Ticketmaster and other ticketing companies. He established the first NBA/Ticketmaster call center in Charleston, West Virginia, as well as, spearheaded the NBA's on-sale promotions. Kaye was originally hired by the NBA in 1999 as the manager of team marketing.
Kaye's experience in professional sports extends to baseball (Utica Blue Sox - 1988), arena football (AFL - Mass Marauders), and hockey with the International Hockey League office. In addition, he spent one year with Capital Sports and Entertainment, a now-defunct diversified holding company that included interests in professional sports and entertainment.
The Hamilton College graduate is excited about stepping behind the bench of the Royals front office. "I couldn't think of a better opportunity in all of minor league sports," commented Kaye. Our fans and the community are outstanding in their support and dedication to our organization. "
SMG's vice president of operations, Harry Cann, believes Kaye will continue to lead the Royals in the right direction, "Gordon brings tremendous energy and passion to Reading. We are confident his creativity, leadership and experience will be valuable assets to the organization as we work to continue the success of the Royals both on the ice and in the community."
Kaye received his Bachelor of Science degree in American History from Hamilton College, while acquiring a Masters degree in Sports Management/ Physical Education from Indiana University. Kaye also received a MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. At Columbia, he was admitted to the Beta Gamma Sigma National Honors Society. Kaye and his wife, Anna, are the proud parents of their seven-month-old daughter, Amelia Rose.
The Royals will begin the 2005-06 season with a pair of preseason games with the defending Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans. On Saturday, October 15 the two clubs will meet in Monmouth, New Jersey, then battle again two days later on Monday, October 17 at the Body Zone Sports and Fitness Complex in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Tickets are on sale now at the Royals new Fan-Attic store at 645 Penn Street in downtown Reading and Body Zone at 3103 Papermill Road.
The Royals 5th Anniversary Season officially begins at home in the Sovereign Center on Saturday, October 29 against the Titans. The Royals will raise the North Division regular season championship banner prior to the drop of the puck.
