Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have agreed to terms with defenseman Dave Cousineau and goaltender Mathieu Chouinard on contracts for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.

Cousineau, 27, enjoyed an all-star season in 2003-04 as a rookie with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, as he led all Wranglers defensemen with 17 goals and added 15 assists. The Waterloo, Ont. native and third-year professional finished second among ECHL defensemen in goals, power play goals, and game winning goals. His efforts earned him a spot on the Western Conference roster that participated at the 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game in Peoria, Ill. Cousineau spent last season in Europe where he tallied five goals and 22 points in 50 regular season and playoff games between Kaufbeuren ESV of the second division German Bundesliga and the Sheffield Steelers of the United Kingdom's Elite Ice Hockey League. Cousineau has recorded 22 goals and 55 points in 120 career games.

Chouinard, 25, is a former first round draft pick of the Ottawa Senators who went 11-9-3 in 27 games last season for the San Diego Gulls of the ECHL with a 3.01 goals against average and a .906% save percentage. He also made three appearances with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL going 1-1-0, and lost in his only game with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. The Boisbriand, Que. native and sixth-year professional made his NHL debut on February 29, 2003 as a member of the Los Angeles Kings in relief of Cristobal Huet during a 6-3 loss to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Chouinard has appeared in 82 AHL and IHL games with a record of 41-26-2. For his career, he is 65-39-6 in 129 games with 2.51 goals against average and a .908% save percentage.

"We've added some significant experience to our roster with today's signings," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "Mathieu is a seasoned goaltender whose contributions will help us win many games, while Dave will not only bring maturity to our blue line, but will also rank as one of the top offensive defensemen in the league."

The additions of Cousineau and Chouinard give the RoadRunners 19 players under contract with just 17 days remaining until the opening of training camp.

RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information call (602) 462-GOAL, or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
