Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers, members of the United States Hockey League announced today that for the second-straight year, head coach Brian Kaufman has been selected as an assistant coach for the U.S. Junior Select Team at the 2015 World Junior A Challenge from December 13 until December 19 in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario.

Kaufman has been with the Lancers since the 2012-2013 season. First, as an assistant before being named head coach for the 2013-2014 season. Prior to joining the Lancers, Kaufman began his coaching career as the graduate assistant coach at Miami University (Ohio). Kaufman also played for the RedHawks from 2005 - 2009, totaling 84 points in 125 games. The Shoreview, MN native also served as team captain during his junior and senior campaigns.

"It's a huge honor to represent my country," said Kaufman. "Last year was a great learning experience and I'm looking forward to working towards a gold medal."

Following college, Kaufman saw time in the ECHL with the Gwinnett Gladiators and Johnstown Chiefs during the 2009-2010 season. During the ensuing season, Kaufman played in 19 games with the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the Central Hockey League before returning to Miami University (Ohio) as the assistant coach.

Dallas Steward (Chicago Steel) will be the second assistant and the team will be coached by Cary Eades (Fargo Force).

The World Junior A Challenge is in its tenth year, and the United States will be competing for the ninth time. Last year, the team went 3-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) to win their sixth title in seven years.

The teams to compete in the tournament this year include Canada East, Canada West, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland and the United States. The roster for the 2015 U.S. Junior Select Team will be announced in mid-November.

The Omaha Lancers are back home tonight as they host the Tri-City Storm for Guns N Hoses Night.
