Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (Mar. 29, 2006) - For the second time in four weeks the Nashville Kats have made a change in their placekicking duties, head coach Pat Sperduto announced on Wednesday. Nashville released Jason Witczak, who had served as the team's kicker the last three games, and signed Jason Ball, who had kicked in two games for the Colorado Crush earlier this season.

Ball (5-9, 185) comes to the Kats after having filled in for Colorado kicker Clay Rush for a pair of games earlier this month when Rush was injured. Ball, who kicked collegiately at North Texas, made 14-of-16 extra point attempts and connected on one of his two field goal tries in his two outings this season. He spent the last two years in af2, where he was a combined 108-for-134 on PAT attampts and 16-for-41 on field goal tries. Ball was named second-team All-af2 in 2004 as a member of the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings.

Ball replaces Witczak who was released after making 15 of his 18 extra points and going 0-fo-4 on field goal attempts.

The move comes less than four weeks after Nashville cut kicker Tony Dodson, who had played for the Kats in the first six games of the 2006 season and the final six contests of 2005. Dodson was waived on March 6 after he had missed nine extra point attempts in six games, including three in a 51-49 loss at Arizona on March 4.

The move marks the second consecutive season in which the Kats have used three kickers. In 2005, Nashville cut Gary Kral after nine games, then signed Matt Hutto who was waived after one contest. Dodson was signed and kicked in the last six games of the 2005 season.

The Kats (6-3) play at Colorado in a battle for first place in the AFL's Central Division on Saturday night at 8 p.m. CT. The game will air live on the Kats Radio Network and flagship station 104.5 The Zone, and will be televised on a tape-delay at 10 p.m. CT on FSN South.
