Katie Bowen Granted Early Release, Signs with Melbourne City FC

CARY, N.C. - Defender Katie Bowen has been granted an early release from her contract with the North Carolina Courage. The mutual termination allows Bowen to sign with Melbourne City FC of the Australian A-League for this season.

Bowen spent one season with the Courage, helping the team to the 2022 Challenge Cup championship. She then appeared in two matches during the NWSL regular season, logging 91 minutes.

The former North Carolina Tar Heel standout joins the A-League after six NWSL seasons, playing her first two seasons (2016, 2017) in Kansas City. She then joined the now-disbanded Utah club for two seasons in 2018 and 2019 before returning to Kansas City in 2021. She has two goals and five assists for her career. Bowen has also represented New Zealand in three World Cups and a pair of Olympic Games, appearing in 32 matches with 29 starts.
