Kansas City Wizards, U.S. Soccer Foundation to Provide Tickets to Kansas City School Districts
October 3, 2007 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards announced today that they will present tickets to Kansas City, Missouri schools thanks to a partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Schools in the KCMO and Hickman Mills School districts will be the beneficiaries of tickets to the last Wizards home match of the season, this Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Arrowhead Stadium versus D.C. United.
"The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States and a sponsor of Major League Soccer, is dedicated to the growth of the game in this country," U.S. Soccer Foundation President John Koskinen said. "We're pleased to be able to join with the Kansas City Wizards to provide young people in the Kansas City area an opportunity they might not have to see exciting soccer played at the professional level."
"We're very thankful to the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the Wizards for donating these tickets and allowing some of our students to the see the Wizards and their world-class athletes up close," Dr. Marge Williams, Superintendent of Hickman Mills C-1 said. "This is a once and a lifetime experience for many of our students, and we feel fortunate to expand education beyond the walls of the traditional classroom."
"We are thankful to the Kansas City Wizards and the U.S. Soccer Foundation for these tickets. This will be an experience our students will not forget -- a sports event live and in-person," said Cynthia Wheeler-Linden, Chief Communications Officer KCMSD. "The Kansas City, Missouri School District is thankful, and we know that our students will enjoy experiencing the magic of the Wizards."
Friday will be the Wizards Fan Appreciation Night and could be a preview of a 2007 MLS Cup Playoff match-up between the squads. The Wizards will offer merchandise specials and giveaways throughout the match, presented by Time Warner Cable and adidas. Players will then come out after the game for a field-level autograph session.
"The Kansas City Wizards would like to thank the U.S. Soccer Foundation for working with us to provide tickets to the Kansas City, Missouri and Hickman Mills school districts," Wizards Executive Vice President Greg Cotton said. "This provides a wonderful opportunity for many children to experience the exciting action and encompassing fun of a Wizards game."
If the season ended today, the Wizards and D.C. United would square off in a two-game playoff series, with aggregate goals deciding the winner. The first leg would be played at Arrowhead Stadium with a return match in the nation's capitol at RFK Stadium. The Wizards have a chance to clinch a playoff birth with a win Friday and help over the weekend.
