KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The pitching staff held on for as long as they could Wednesday night, but the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers eventually succumbed to an offensive push from the Carolina Mudcats, falling, 2-0, at Atrium Health Ballpark.
RHP Aldrin Batista turned in a productive night on the mound, tossing five shutout innings and striking out four. RHP Horacio Andujar (L, 2-4) allowed the first crucial Mudcats run in the seventh inning, allowing one earned run on three hits, walking one and striking out one.
Carolina put up the first run of the game in the top of the seventh with a Jadher Areinamo RBI double, scoring Kay-Lan Nicasia and putting the Mudcats on top, 1-0.
Jace Avina added an insurance run for the visitors in the top of the eighth with an RBI double, scoring Luke Adams from second to push Carolina to a, 2-0, advantage, a lead that Kannapolis had chances to overtake, but could not.
Kannapolis will look to rebound in the third game of six total on the week against the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m., with LHP Shane Murphy scheduled for his penultimate home start on the mound.
Fans can purchase tickets for any remaining home games at kcballers.com or at the F&M Bank Box Office located at Atrium Health Ballpark.
