Kannapolis Breaks Tie in 8th, Wins 5-1 over Legends

(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) The Kannapolis Intimidators broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and went on to a 5-1 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night.

Starting pitchers Alec Mills of Lexington and Robinson Leyer of Kannapolis each threw six shutout innings.

The Legends broke through against Leyer for a run in the seventh. Mauricio Ramos led off with a double. He was sacrificed to third by Elier Hernandez, and scored on Chad Johnson's single.

Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a double by Toby Thomas and a single by Eddy Alvarez off Kevin Perez, who relieved Mills at the start of the inning.

Christian Stringer led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single. He stole second and moved to third on a passed ball charged to Johnson. Danny Hayes drew a walk and took second on defensive indifference.

After Jacob Morris walked, loading the bases, Stringer came home on Perez' wild pitch as the other runners moved up. A second wild pitch allowed Hayes to score, and Morris came home on Jeremy Dowdy's triple to right center field. Dowdy then scored on a wild pitch, giving Kannapolis a 5-1 lead.

Jose Brito (3-1), who relieved Leyer at the start of the eighth inning, got the win. Perez (1-3) took the loss.

The Intimidators have taken the first two games of the series which concludes with a 12:05 p.m. game Wednesday.
