Asheville Tourists News Release

Savannah, GA--For only the fifth time this season, the Asheville Tourists suffered a loss after carrying a lead into the ninth inning. On Monday night in Savannah, the Tourists held a 3-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately, the Sand Gnats rallied for the game-tying run which set up a walk-off win in the tenth.

Asheville jumped out to a 2-0 lead right away. With Raimel Tapia on base, Zach Osborne crushed a Miller Diaz offering in the first inning. The ball soared over the left field wall for Osborne's second Home Run of the season.

In the bottom of the second, Savannah took advantage of a costly miscue from the Tourists. With two outs, Victor Cruzado popped a fly ball on the infield which should have ended the inning.

Instead, the ball dropped in between first and second. The next batter, Colton Plaia, singled home a run. The Gnats tied the game in the third on Yeixon Ruiz's solo Home Run to left.

The score remained tied until the top of the seventh. Dillon Thomas delivered a triple into the left field corner and scored on Wilfredo Rodriguez's sacrifice fly. Asheville held the 3-2 lead all the way up to the bottom of the ninth.

Nelfi Zapata led off the inning by working a walk. Pinch-runner Jonathon Johnson went to second on a balk and took third when Jorge Rivero singled into right. Cruzado then tied the game with an RBI single. In the bottom of the tenth, Ruiz connected with a lead-off triple and Champ Stuart's sacrifice fly to center served as the game winner.

Savannah put the first batter aboard in six of the ten innings played. Kyle Freeland worked four frames for the Tourists, surrendered two runs, and recorded a pair of strikeouts en route to a no- decision.
