Week in Review:

Wednesday, January 18th, 2011 vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes - 3-0 Win

Cole Cheveldave recorded his third shutout of the month and fourth of the season with a 3-0 victory. Brendan Ranford opened the scoring as Cole Ully created a turnover and Ranford made it 1-0 for the Blazers. The hockey club extended their lead in the second period. Tyler Hansen fired a shot on goal and Chase Souto scored on the rebound to make it 2-0. Tim Bozon scored his 23rd of the season on a nice pass by Marek Hrbas to make it 3-0. The Blazers cruised their way to victory in the third period shutting the Hurricanes out for their 7th straight win. Full Recap and Highlights.

Friday, January 19th, 2011 at Seattle Thunderbirds - 5-3 Win

The Blazers continued their dominance over Western Conference opponents with a 5-3 win in Seattle. Chase Souto opened the scoring as he had a shot from Bronson Maschmeyer deflect off of him and in for a 1-0 Blazers lead. Colin Smith made it 2-0 when he chipped in an errant shot as the Blazers were in full control. The Thunderbirds got one back before the first period was out. The Blazers scored twice in the second period as Chase Schaber and Bronson Maschmeyer got on the board for a 4-1 lead. The Thunderbirds had a late push, but Chase Schaber scored an empty net goal to preserve a 5-3 win. Goaltender Cam Lanigan earned the win with 30 saves in goal. Full Recap.

Saturday, January 20th, 2011 at Tri-City Americans - 4-3 Win

A win in Tri-City lifted the Blazers to 1st overall in the WHL standings beating the Americans 4-3 in a shootout. The Americans opened the scoring, but Chase Schaber replied for the Blazers 45 seconds later to tie it at 1-1. Brendan Ranford gave the Blazers the lead scoring a nice goal on the power play for a 2-1 lead through the first period. The Americans stormed back late in the second period as Brendan Shinnimin and Adam Hughesman tied the game. The Blazers had three power play chances in the third period but couldn't score. In overtime, the Blazers killed a 4-on-3 power play and had a late chance to score but missed the net. Chase Schaber and Bronson Maschmeyer netted shootout goals, while goaltender Cole Cheveldave stopped both shooters to preserve the win. The Blazers won their 9th consecutive game for their longest winning streak since the 98-99 season. The win also put the Blazers 2 points up on Tri-City and Edmonton for 1st overall in the WHL standings. Full Recap.

BMO Ultimate Fan Contest TONIGHT - Win a Trip to the Memorial Cup!

To celebrate BMO's new four-year partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, BMO and the Kamloops Blazers will hold a kick-off event on January 23rd. The event is centred on the BMO Ultimate CHL Fan contest, which will give participants the chance to meet Kamloops Blazers players and compete for a chance to win a trip to the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup. The first 100 people to register on-site at the BMO branch on Monday, January 23rd will be contestants in the BMO Ultimate Fan contest.

Dress up in your best Kamloops Blazers colours, jerseys or costumes - whatever it takes to look like a BMO Ultimate Fan! Three semi-finalists will be chosen by the panel of judges. The semi-finalists will be put to the test with trivia questions provided by the Kamloops Blazers. The winner will receive a special team jersey and an entry into a draw with other "BMO Ultimate CHL Fan" winners within the WHL to win a trip for two to the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Monster Mondays

To kick start your week, the Kamloops Blazers will be offering game tickets for a low price of only $10. Every Monday, tickets can be purchased at the Kamloops Blazers Box office for only $10 for any scheduled home games that week. This promotion applies to non-premium seating and will be in effect for the remainder of the season. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Blazers Box Office. Blazers Now Ranked 4th in BMO MasterCard CHL Top 10

The Kamloops Blazers continue to be in the CHL Top 10 rankings. The Blazers jumped from 7th last week up to 4th this past week. This is the eighth time the Blazers have been ranked in the CHL Top 10 this season. The Blazers are the second ranked WHL team behind the Tri-City Americans, who are ranked 1st in the CHL. Bozon Added to CHL Top Prospects Game in Kelowna

Blazers' rookie forward Tim Bozon has been added to the CHL Top Prospects game in Kelowna on February 1st. Bozon was recently ranked 39th among North American skaters in the NHL's Central Scouting rankings. The 17-year-old forward has 23 goals, 23 assists for 46 points in 47 games this season. Bozon leads all WHL rookies in goals and is 2nd in points this season. For the story, follow this link.

Blazers sit 1st overall in the WHL, Riding a 9-Game Winning Streak

The Kamloops Blazers won all three games this past week and now lead the WHL Standings with 71 points and a 34-10-1-2 record. The Blazers currently hold a 12-point lead in the Division over the Vancouver Giants. The hockey club has continued where they left off after the Christmas break with a 10-1-0-1 record and go into this week riding a nine game winning streak, their longest since the 1998-99 season.

The Blazers have already surpassed their win total from last season (29) with 34 wins, and are 2nd in the CHL with a .755 winning percentage. The Blazers are 11-1-0-0 in their past twelve home games. One of the most glaring stats is the Blazers dominance against its Western Conference opponents with a 27-3-1-1 record. The Blazers also hold the best road record in the WHL going 16-4-1-2.

Hockey Legend, Gordie Howe is coming to Kamloops! Mr. Hockey will be part of a ceremonial puck drop on Wednesday, February 1st when the Blazers host the Spokane Chiefs. A select number of fans will have the opportunity to meet Gordie and have their photo taken with the hockey legend. Also, a select number of season ticket holders will have the chance to spend the game in the Kamloops Blazers suite with Gordie!

Catching up with Goaltender Cole Cheveldave

The WHL did a feature with rookie goaltender Cole Cheveldave. The 18-year-old is 25-5-1-2 this season and is amongst the leaders in most goaltending categories. For more on Cole, follow this link.

Blazers Look to Continue their Success on the Road This Week

The Kamloops Blazers are 6-0-0-2 in their past eight road games and are riding a 9-game winning streak. The Blazers will be looking for continued success as they travel to Kelowna on Wednesday night. The game will be televised across Western Canada on SHAW-TV.

The Blazers will then head to Vancouver Island to play the Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday night. The Blazers are 5-0-0-0 against the Royals this season.
