
K-Wings win in dramatic fashion

Toledo, OH- Ryan Nie was a mason in front of his net and it took another Mason, Jeff Mason for the Kalamazoo Wings to score the lone goal of night to defeat the Toledo Walleye 1-0.
Hard hits and end-to-end action highlighted a scoreless opening period of hockey. Kalamazoo's Nie saved 11 shots in the first, while his counterpart Jordan Pearce turned aside all 10 attempts Kalamazoo sent his way in the period.
The scoreless gridlock and physical play continued in the second period. Kalamazoo out-shot Toledo 12-11 in the period. The K-Wings were whistled three times in the period for nine minutes in penalties, while the Walleye earned four trips to the penalty box for 11 minutes.
In a game that appeared that the first team to score would win; it was Mason (5th) would knock in a rebound with 3.7 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the victory.
The goal was Mason's first tally since December 5th, also at Lucas County Arena versus the Walleye. Assisting on the goal was Ryan McGinnis and Trent Daavettila. McGinnis was playing in his 100th career professional contest, while Daavettila has now earned point in seven straight road games (10/1/09-present).

Kalamazoo will return to Wings Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, January 2nd for a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus Toledo on Star Wars Night.
Besides being encouraged to dress as their favorite Stars Wars character, fans will have the opportunity to take pictures with characters from the movie. In total, nearly 20 characters from the Star Wars movies will be represented thanks to the 501st Legion costuming group. Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in a Blaster Range in Hospitality Hall. The interactive exhibits can be done for a $1 donation with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Single-game tickets for any of the K-Wings 36 regular season home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office.
