Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, Mich.- The Kalamazoo Wings have hired Joe Roberts as its new director of public relations and broadcaster.
Roberts began his professional career with the K-Wings as an intern during the fall of 2010, and has since been employed by the team in several different capacities. Most recently, his responsibilities included acting as the in-game emcee and PA announcer during the 2014-15 season.
For the two seasons (2011-13) that the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings (NAHL) were active, Roberts headed up the PR and broadcasting departments for the club.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, he spent three years as the voice of WMU's women's basketball, volleyball, and baseball teams. His broadcast experience also features high school football play-by-play and hosting a morning radio show in Kalamazoo.
"I've been around this team for years and I'm very excited for the future of K-Wings hockey," said Roberts. "I can't wait to start forging relationships with the players, coaches, media, and the ferociously loyal fan base."
Also joining the K-Wings front office staff are Jason Kane and Kate Rohrstaff.
Kane, who will work in sales, has seven years of experience with four of those in sports. Another former K-Wings intern and Western Michigan University alumnus, Kane had worked with the Chicago Blackhawks, Asheville Tourists (Class-A baseball), and the YMCA of Orange County prior to joining the K-Wings.
Rohrstaff, who will also join the sales force in Kalamazoo this season, comes to the K-Wings with an extensive background in hospitality sales. A proud mom of three and an active member in local organizations, Rohrstaff enjoys being part of the Greenleaf Responsible Business Committee and is actively working on a recycling initiative for local businesses.
"I am very excited to have this caliber of talent join the Kalamazoo Wings front office," said Toni Daniels, director of sales. "Joe, Jason and Kate are very connected to the community and will bring lots of energy, ideas and most importantly growth to the business."
