K-Wings Re-Sign Playmakers Eric Kattelus and Charlie Vasaturo
August 26, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have re-signed veteran centerman *Eric Kattelus* and second-year defenseman Charlie Vasaturo to ECHL contracts, the team announced Friday.
Kattelus, 29, gears up for his sixth full season of pro hockey, having played all but 25 of his career ECHL games with the Wings. In 35 contests last year, the native of Traverse City, Michigan tallied five goals, 17 assists and 39 penalty minutes.
"If you take the whole body of work of what he's done here as a Kalamazoo Wing, it's been fantastic," head coach *Nick Bootland *said. "If we can keep him healthy and in the lineup, he will make a difference and impact all situations."
Before his professional debut with the Cincinnati Cyclones in February of 2011, Kattelus appeared in 87 games over four years at Michigan Tech, where he registered six goals and 26 assists. Kattelus has skated in 284 career professional hockey games, with 45 coming in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves.
Vasaturo, 25, made his professional debut with Kalamazoo in October 2015, and appeared in 37 games over the course of the 2015-16 season with the Wings. Hailing from Sewell, New Jersey, the second-year defenseman scored four goals and added seven assists from the Kalamazoo blue line during his rookie campaign.
"He was in and out of the lineup all season last year," Bootland said. "But when called upon, he came in and did a great job. If you look at his last 12 or 14 games, that body of work was outstanding and he carried his defensive pairing during the postseason."
Before his professional career took off with the Wings, Vasaturo spent four years at Union College, where he won three consecutive (2012-14) ECAC league titles and the 2014 NCAA National Championship. The 6-foot-2 defenseman's leadership in college earned him team captain honors of the Dutchmen during his senior season.
