K-Tribe Wins 6-5 in Ninth

The Kinston Indians won a dramatic 6-5 affair Wednesday night in Kinston with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning. The victory guaranteed at least a series sweep for the K-Tribe.
Kinston was charged with coming from behind as starter Drew Pomeranz allowed the first two men to the plate in the first to reach on hits. Lynchburg's leadoff man Todd Cunningham stole third after a double started the inning. Cunningham scored on a single from the next man to the plate, Andrelton Simmons. Pomeranz buckled down though, and with two on he struck out the last two men in the inning.
Kinston came right back to tie in the first. Casey Frawley walked, moved to second on a balk and scored on Adam Abraham's RBI single.
It wasn't until the fifth that things became exciting as Lynchburg inched out in front once more. Cunningham again started the trouble with a one out single. Cunningham worked his way around the bases and scored on a wild pitch. Again Pomeranz ended the frame by stranding Lynchburg base runners as Phil Gosselin was left standing on second when a pop out got Kinston out of the fifth.
Abraham struck in the sixth for Kinston with a two run homer to left field to give the K-Tribe a one run advantage heading in to the later innings. Abraham's team leading fourth home run broke a homerless streak of more than a month. Kinston's third baseman last hit one out of the park on April, 13th.
Cunningham again put Lynchburg in a position to take the lead in the seventh. He hit the second of back-to-back singles to leadoff the inning. Hillcats first baseman Joseph Terdoslavich brought both Cunningham and L.V. Ware in with a two out, two rbi double.
Kinstons two eighth inning runs were wiped clean when Lynchburg scored one in the ninth off Kinston reliever Jose Flores.
Up to the task all night, Kinstons patient approach in the ninth inning gave the K-Tribe win number 16 on the season. With one out, Roberto Perez singled through the right side of the infield. Delvi Cid followed that with a walk and Tyler Holt loaded the bases with a single. Casey Frawley drew his third walk of the game to push Perez home and give the Kinston its second win in as many days 6-5.
Kinston Starter Drew Pomeranz did not get a decision, working six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits. Jose Flores worked the ninth and gets saddled with a blown save and picks up his first win of the season.
Reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Arodys Viscaino limited Kinston to one run on two hits over five innings. Lynchburg's loss goes to Eliecer Cardenas who gave up Kinstons winning run on two hits. Cardenas walked two and gets credit for one third of an inning.
Kinstons current road trip wraps up on Thursday, the K-Tribe will be shooting for a series win against the Hillcats. Kinstons Clayton Cook will be opposed by Chris Masters, first pitch is set for 6:30 pm at Historic Grainger Stadium.
