Kinston Indians News Release


Leading the Wild Card chase by three games, the K-Tribe begins their final week of games of the regular season tonight at Frederick. Kinston will play eight games in seven days to end the season. Four games in four days at Frederick, then four games in three days over the Holiday weekend at Potomac. Kinston's regular season ends on Labor Day.

I Plead The Fifth - Kinston scored 12 runs on eight hits in an epic fifth inning to finish off a three-game sweep of Salem with a 15-2 win on Sunday at Grainger Stadium. It was the most runs and hits in an inning for the K-Tribe this season and they also sent a season-high 15 batters to the plate. Kyle Bellows capped the inning with a three-run homer. The 15 runs matched a season-high from April 25 vs. Myrtle Beach.

Remember When - The fifth inning on Sunday was the Indians' biggest inning since June 19, 2008 in the second inning vs. Lynchburg. In that frame, Kinston scored 13 runs on 10 hits, and batted around twice to send 18 men to the plate. The inning was highlighted by a Jared Goedert three-run homer, and the Indians won the game 13-8.

Catching Fire - The K-Tribe has won a season-high six games in a row. Overall, Kinston has won 11 of their last 14 games and four consecutive series. They now hold a three-game lead over Salem in the Southern Division Wild Card race with eight games to play. Myrtle Beach is 3.5 games back.

There's No Place Like Home - Sunday's blowout win ended a successful home season for the Indians at Historic Grainger Stadium. Kinston went 42-27 on their home turf in 2010. Even with four rainouts, the Indians welcomed over 118,741 fans to Grainger Stadium this season, the third-highest total since 2001.
