Jupiter Shut Down, Shut Out By Gibson

Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

On the first Education Day of the year at Roger Dean Stadium, Fort Myers starter Kyle Gibson put on a pitching clinic.

Gibson faced the minimum number of batters in a complete game one-hitter, leading the Miracle to a 2-0 victory over the Hammerheads. Perfect through five, Jupiter right fielder Isaac Galloway drove a ball off the pitching mound, ricocheting away from a hard charging Nick Romero and allowing Galloway to reach. But it was a short victory for Jupiter (9-11), as Galloway was promptly picked off at first.

In that same inning, Gibson (2-1) walked catcher Robert Taylor, but got shortstop Chris Wade to ground into a double play to end both the inning and the offense for Jupiter. Gibson would not allow another baserunner.

Much like last night's game, which also saw the Jupiter offense shut out, a strong pitching performance by the Hammerheads kept the game in reach even while Gibson continued to deal. Kyle Kaminska spread 9 hits out over 6.1 innings, allowing a run in each of the 1st and 5th innings.

But facing one of the top prospects in baseball, even two runs proved too much to overcome. Gibson, ranked by Baseball America as the Twins' 3rd best prospect and #65 in all of baseball, struck out 6 while throwing the Florida State League's first nine-inning complete game of the year.
