Juniors Win It, as Chouinard Makes History

Montreal, February 23, 2010- The Montreal Juniors (28-26-2-3 : 61 pts) pulled out a 9-7 victory at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée against the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Nicolas Chouinard made franchise history for Montreal, by scoring 5 goals in one game. He also became the 42nd player in league history to score 4 or more goals in a single period.

Michal Hlinka of the MAINEiacs opened the scoring 44 seconds into the first period. Three minutes later, Matt Provost answered for Montreal with his second goal of the season, assisted by Lapostolle and Sherbatov. Matt Boyle and Samuel Carrier gave Lewiston the lead, and Chris Thorne closed the scoring for the first period on a shot assissted by Guillaume Asselin.

Lewiston's Michael Chaput scored his 25th of the season, bringing the score to 4-2. Matthew Brenton then gave his team a boost, netting one for Montreal. Jess Tanguy scored one on the power play. Rose and Chouinard stepped up to even the score for Montreal.

The Juniors took the lead for the first time in the game with an unassisted goal from Nicolas Chouinard. Lewiston came back with a goal from Samuel Finn, assisted by Pierre-Oliver Morin and Billy Lacasse. Chouinard continued his scoring by netting his 23rd, 24th, and 25th goals of the season, giving his team a comfortable lead. Oskar Orrpars scored at late in the third, but it was not enough, as Montreal went on to beat Lewiston 9-7.

Pascal Vincent has assured his confidence in Jean-François Bérubé in net for Montreal, although he was replaced by =C9tienne Marcoux after allowing three goals in the first period.

The Juniors will cross paths with the Gatineau, the Shawinigan, and Drummondville on February 26, 27, and 28, respectively. Their next home game will take place March 4th against the Gatineau Olympiques at 7:35 pm.
