Montreal Juniors News Release

Montreal, October 16th, 2009 - The Quebec Remparts won a very close match as winger Dmitry Kugryshev and goalie Jean-Philippe Gagnon led the Remparts over the Montreal Juniors by a score of 2-1. Louis-Marc Aubry scored for the Juniors while Ryan Bourque added his sixth goal of season and Kugryshev scored the only shootout goal for the Quebec Remparts.

After losing the previous two games, the Montreal Juniors wanted to bounce back tonight at home against one of the top teams in the QMJHL, the Quebec Remparts. Meanwhile, the Remparts were looking to extend their winning streak to three games and they did just that.

There was limited action in the first as both Jake Allen and Jean-Philippe Gagnon made several key saves to keep this to a 0-0 game. Shots favored Montreal 12 to 9.

In the early going of the second, Juniors forward Pier-Antoine Dion was robbed in front of the net by Gagnon when forward Louis-Marc Aubry centered the puck. Defense dominated the second as the Juniors were able to kill off three penalties while the Remparts shutdown the Juniors' attack to make this a 0-0 game going to the third.

In the last twenty minutes of play, the Juniors would break the 0-0 deadlock 8:29 into the period when Dion centered the puck to winger Louis-Marc Aubry for his second goal of the season. The Remparts answered back when center Kelsey Tessier sent a pass from behind the net to winger Ryan Bourque, who was right on the doorstep, as he put the puck past Allen's left pad at 11:35. However, Allen made several solid saves down the stretch to force this game to overtime.

The Juniors opened the overtime period with a man advantage. Yet, they weren't able to capitalize as Gagnon made all three saves to help his team kill off a crucial penalty. The game eventually went to a shootout. Dmitry Kugryshev scored the only shootout goal as the Remparts improve to 8-2-2-1 while the Juniors fall to 7-5-0-1.

Montreal netminder and St. Louis Blue's prospect Jake Allen was spectacular as he made 35 saves. Quebec goaltender Jean-Phillippe Gagnon was also sharp as he stopped 34 of 35 shots.

Montreal Juniors Head coach Pascal Vincent reached a new milestone as he coached his 700th QMJHL regular season game tonight.

The Juniors will now head to Gatineau to face the Olympiques tomorrow afternoon. They will come back to Montreal to play the Moncton Wildcats Wednesday night at 7:35PM, on October 21st. Then, they will host the defending champs, the Drummondville Voltigeurs, on Friday, October 23 at 7:35PM.
