Montreal Juniors News Release

Montreal, December 30th, 2009 - In the final Montreal Juniors game of 2009, the visitors at the Verdun Auditorium were the Shawinigan Cataractes. The last matchup featuring these two teams had Éric Veilleux's troops come out on top 3-1, a game played on November 21st. This time, the Junior were the victors by a score of 2-1.

Recent Cataractes' acquisition Olivier Ouellet was the first to find the back of the net at the halfway mark of the first period on the power play. Trevor Parkes would respond by scoring in a similar fashion for the Juniors, equalling the mark as Charles-Olivier Roussel was serving a two-minute minor just moments into the second frame. Captain Nicolas Chouinard and defenseman Alex Wall were credited with assists on the play.

The 3rd period saw both teams fight down to the final seconds for the difference-maker. Trevor Parkes would score his second of the game with only 6 seconds left before the end of regulation. With the win, Montreal's record is now 17-17-0-3.

Los Angeles-drafted goalkeeper Jean-François Bérubé made 36 saves for the Junior. In front of the opposing net, Varennes native Gabriel Girard stopped 27 pucks out of 29.

The Montreal Juniors will next prepare for a weekend homestand to welcome the new year. On Saturday, January 2nd, they will play against the Val D'Or Foreurs at 4:05 p.m., and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will be the visitors on the following day, also at 4:05 p.m.
