Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - As the Fresno Grizzlies prepare for Opening Night on April 5th, the Junior Grizzlies will take the field and kickoff their season this Sunday, March 25th.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm as nearly 100 players from the Junior Grizzlies are scheduled to be introduced at Woods Elementary School at 700 Teague Ave in Clovis. Former Major Leaguer and Grizzlies Team Ambassador, Gus Zernial is scheduled to throw out the first pitch and Grizzlies mascot Parker is also expected to appear. After the pre-game festivities, eight teams from the Junior Grizzlies will officially kickoff their season by playing their first league games.
This is the inaugural season for Junior Grizzlies, the flagship program of the Grizzlies Community Fund. Junior Grizzlies is a non-competitive baseball league that gives all kids, regardless of their limitations, the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. This unique baseball program is open to children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities. All proceeds raised through the Grizzlies Community Fund will directly benefit the kids of Junior Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies Community Fund has set a goal to raise $400,000 for the construction of a rubberized baseball field for the league. The field will be located at Gateway Alternative School on Herndon and Sunnyside in Clovis and will take on the name of a title sponsor upon completion. Until then, the league's teams will play at Woods Elementary School.
