SEA DOGS DROP FIRST GAME OF THE SERIES - The Portland Sea Dogs fell in the first game of the series last night, 5-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats. The Sea Dogs started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Yard Goats starter Michael Baird. With two outs, Pedro Castellanos singled to left and Izzy Wilson followed with a walk. Cottam drove a base hit to left, scoring Castellanos, and giving Portland a 1-0 lead. Hartford responded in the top of the fourth inning against Portland starter Brett Kennedy. Daniel Montano led off with a double and Ezequiel Tovar brought them both home on a two-run homer. It was his 12th of the season and gave the Yard Goats a 2-1 lead. The Sea Dogs answered in the bottom of the fourth inning against Baird. Christian Koss started the inning with a solo shot over the Maine Monster. It was his sixth of the year and tied the game 2-2. The Yard Goats came roaring back in the top of the sixth with Kennedy still on the mound. Isaac Collins led off with a solo homer, giving Hartford the lead back 3-2. Montano doubled and Ezequiel Tovar singled, putting runners on the corners. Jimmy Herron cleared the bases with a two-run triple, adding the to the Yard Goats lead, 5-2. Portland brought in a run in the bottom of the eight against Hartford reliever Trent Fennell. Castellanos led off with a double. One out later, Cottam singled to center, bringing in Castellanos and making the score 5-3.

CASTELLANOS INTO DOUBLE DIGITS - Pedro Castellanos continued his hot streak last night going three-for-four with two singles, a double and two runs. He extended his on base streak to 10 games and is batting .385 during that time. Castellanos has recorded five doubles, one home run, three RBI with eight runs in his last 10 games. He also owns an OBP of .405 and a OPS of .995.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT - Last night's loss was the first time this season that the Sea Dogs have lost a Tuesday game at home. Portland is 2-1 on Wednesday's at Hadlock Field and are batting .219 in games following a loss.

WELCOME TO PORTLAND - Prior to last night's game, the Boston Red Sox promoted infielder Ceddanne Rafaela from A+ Greenville Drive. Ranked as the No. 22 prospect according to Baseball America, he was batting .330 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 9 home runs and 36 RBI with the Drive. Last season, he was named Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Year. He made 51 starts in CF, 17 at 3B, 15 at SS, 9 in LF, 6 at 2B, and 1 in RF. Rafaela made his 1st career appearances at each OF position, recording 9 OF assists and posting a .992 fielding percentage (1 E/132 TC). In last night's game, Rafaela went 0-for-4 with three fly outs. He did have an incredible throw from centerfield holding a runner at third and not allowing him to score. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox have sent infielder Brandon Howlett to Greenville.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - June 8, 1995: The Sea Dogs tag Ramiro Mendoza for 8 hits and 5 runs in 2 innings in a 10-3 blowout of Norwich. The win was the 100th in Sea Dogs franchise history.

PITCHING MATCHUP - LHP Chris Murphy takes the mound tonight for the Sea Dogs. He last pitched June 2nd at New Hampshire and tossed 6.1innings allowing one run on one hit while walking two and striking out nine. The one hit was a lead-off double in the first inning. Murphy's only run allowed came in the seventh inning with one out with the runner scoring on a wild pitch.
