
Reading Splits Doubleheader with Altoona

The Reading Fightin Phils suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Altoona Curve in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader at home.
Jhailyn Ortiz had the lone hit of the contest for the R-Phils while Logan O'Hoppe and Sal Gozzo each reached base on a walk. Jack Conley walked twice.
The Curve jumped out to a 3-0 lead as they scored one run in the top of the second inning and two in the top of the third.
Reading got two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in seventh but couldn't bring them home.
James McArthur drew the start on the mound for the Fightins. He pitched five innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. He struck out seven batters.
Jack Perkins came on in relief to pitch the final two innings. He allowed one run and three hits while striking out two

The Reading Fightin Phils took a late lead and held onto it as they defeated the Altoona Curve 6-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Reading erupted for 10 hits, highlighted by two-hit performances by Vito Friscia, Logan O'Hoppe, Aldrem Corredor and Jack Conley. Corredor hit the go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the team a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
O'Hoppe hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning, which gave the R-Phils a 1-0 lead.
Altoona found the equalizer in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a string of three singles to open the frame.
With the game tied in the sixth inning, the Fightins loaded the bases. Friscia and Josh Ockimey reached on singles while O'Hoppe was intentionally walked. Corredor stepped to the plate and crushed a grand slam to left field to give Reading a 6-1 lead.
The Curve led off the top of the seventh inning with a single but Brian Marconi struck out the side to end the game.
Billy Sullivan was the starting pitcher for the Fightins. He pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit while striking out three batters.
Matt Seelinger relieved Sullivan and also pitched two scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and finished with two strikeouts.
Ofriedy Gomez came on in the fifth inning and gave up one run on three hits.
Erik Miller pitched the sixth inning and didn't allow a run or a hit. He earned the win in the second game for Reading.
Marconi came on in the seventh inning. He gave up one hit but struck out the final three batters to end the game.
