Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp second baseman Justin Twine hit a game-tying, two-out, two-run double to right-center field and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves before NAPA AutoCare Family Fireworks in front of 7,002 on Red Shirt Friday and Florida Blue Night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Jacksonville right-hander Robert Dugger retired the Braves (24-23 second half, 53-64 overall) in order the first time through the lineup, and the Jumbo Shrimp (19-28, 47-68) gave him the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Third baseman Brian Schales and shortstop Joe Dunand hit consecutive singles. Schales was caught trying to score, while Dunand moved to second base and went to third base on a wild pitch by right-hander Kelvin Vasquez. First baseman Eric Jagielo hit a sacrifice fly for the only run off Vasquez, who lasted four innings, allowing four hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Mississippi center fielder Connor Lien tied the game with a leadoff home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning and added a one-out home run in the sixth inning for a 2-1 lead. Those were the only runs off Dugger, who lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Left-hander Jeff Kinley relieved him for two scoreless innings.

The Braves kept the lead until the ninth inning, as left-hander Tyler Pike pitched three scoreless innings, and right-hander Jason Hursh pitched one. Left-hander Rex Brothers began the bottom of the ninth inning against John Silviano, who entered at first base when Schales was ejected following his fifth-inning strikeout. In his second Southern League at bat, Silviano homered to center field, tying the game, 2-2, and forcing a 10th inning where each team has a runner at second base.

In the 10th inning, Jacksonville right-hander Tommy Eveld got in a bases-loaded jam with a sacrifice between two intentional walks. Braves shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder grounded a two-run double down the right-field line to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the inning against right-hander Josh Graham, right fielder Monte Harrison hit a two-out single to left field, before Twine hit his two-run double, went to third base on a balk and scored on catcher Jonathan Morales's passed ball.

UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series with Missisippi at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, when Jacksonville right-hander Cody Poteet (2-9) is scheduled to face Braves left-hander Kyle Muller (1-0). Gates open at 5:30 p.m., when the first 2,000 kids receive a free Baptist Health and Wolfson Children's Hospital Youth Backpack, and Wolfson Children's Hospital Health Care Superheroes Night that will honor superheroes in the health care field. For Family Faith Night, Christian musical artist Rhett Walker Band will perform a postgame concert on top of the first-base dugout.
