Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (20-30) fell to the Mississippi Braves (23-27) by a 10-2 score in the fifth and final game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Sunday afternoon.
Miami Marlins right-handed starting pitcher Brett Graves (0-1), with Jacksonville on a major league rehab assignment, took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his four innings of work. Mississippi left-handed relief pitcher Adam McCreery (2-3) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief work.
The Braves led throughout the game, starting with an RBI double by Travis Demeritte in the bottom of the first 1-0. In the third, after an RBI groundout by Tyler Neslony, Demeritte hit a two-run homer down the left field line to give the Braves a 4-0 advantage.
Graves walked the first batter in the fifth inning before Max Duval took over on the mound in his first relief outing of the season. Mississippi rallied for six runs in the fifth, with the big hits coming from Carlos Martinez with a two-run single, and then Neslony's two-RBI single ended the inning with a 10-0 advantage.
In the ninth, Jacksonville was a strike away from being shutout before Eric Jagielo delivered a two-run double to left field to put the score at 10-2, which would be the final. Jagielo enjoyed a fine series in Mississippi, driving in eight runs during the five-game series.
The win was Mississippi's third straight to take the series, and the loss was Jacksonville's first in a rubber match of the series in 2018.
