MOBILE, Ala. - The Los Angeles Angels announced Sunday that left-handed pitcher Jose Suarez has been promoted from the Double-A Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Suarez, 20, made seven starts with the BayBears after opening the season with Class A Advanced Inland Empire. He went 2-1 with a 3.03 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 29 2/3 innings pitched in the Southern League. Suarez fanned a career-high 11 batters in each of his last two starts. He is tied for third in all of Minor League Baseball with 69 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings pitched, combined between Mobile and Inland Empire.

After joining Class A Burlington last June, Suarez went 6-1 with a 3.28 ERA and fanned 90 batters over 68 2/3 innings, an average of 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings. Suarez was named a 2017 MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star.

Suarez is currently the Angels No. 5 pitching prospect, and he is ranked No. 11 overall in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline. This is the first time he has been promoted to Triple-A in his career.

In a corresponding move, catcher Wade Wass returns to Mobile from Salt Lake. The Pensacola, Fla., native and University of Alabama product went 2-for-9 with a solo home run in three Triple-A games.
