July 5, 2019 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes win their fifth straight game behind the bats of Ricardo Genoves and Sean Roby and the arm of Kervin Castro, beating the Vancouver Canadians 5-0 in the first game of a three-game series at Volcanoes Stadium. The win moves the Volcanoes up to 14-7 on the year, tied with the Hillsboro Hops for first place in the NWL South division. With the loss, the Canadians go down to 5-16, the worst record in the league.
- With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, left fielder Kwan Adkins hit a ball over the glove of the first baseman Yorman Rodriguez all the way to the warning track in right field for his second triple of the game, forcing Vancouver's Grant Townsend to leave the game after throwing 4.1 innings pitched.
- Four batters later, against reliever Parker Caracci, catcher Ricardo Genoves hits a fly ball to right field that looked to be over the wall at first but will hit the wall and score Adkins, Simon Whiteman and Sean Roby for a 3-0 Volcano lead.
- In the bottom of the seventh, with Alex Canario at first, Roby hits a well-hit ball to right-center field, scoring Canario for his second triple of the year to make it 4-0.
- Later in the inning, with Franklin Labour at the plate, a wild pitch by Josh Almonte gets past the catcher Brett Wright, which allows Roby to score from third and make it 5-0 Volcanoes.
- During the same at-bat, Labour rips a double down the left field line, scoring Genoves from third to make it 6-0. - Kervin Castro pitches into the sixth inning for the first time this year, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 4 punchouts for his second win of the season.
