LONGEST WINNING STREAK OF THE SEASON - After the doubleheader sweep yesterday, the Portland Sea Dogs have won six-straight games. The six-games is the longest winning streak of the season for the Sea Dogs. Portland took one game over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats then have won five-straight over the Hartford Yard Goats. Portland has the opportunity to sweep the Yard Goats in the six-game series which would also be a first for the Sea Dogs in 2021.
SAME BATTING AVERAGE & ERA IN BOTH GAMES - The Sea Dogs beat the Yard Goats twice yesterday, 8-2 and 5-3. Portland finished with the same batting average (.262) and ERA (4.27) in each game against Hartford.
HITTING STREAK COMES TO AN END - Despite drawing two walks in the first game of the doubleheader yesterday, Joey Meneses' hitting and on-base streak came to an end in the second game of the doubleheader. The streak lasted 11-games and he was batting .450 (18-for-40) with eight doubles, three home runs and nine RBI. The 11-game streak was the longest for a Sea Dog this season.
RONALDO HERNANDEZ TAKE A BOW - Ronaldo Hernandez smashed his first grand slam of the season yesterday in game one of the doubleheader. After Portland drew three-straight walks, Hernandez tattooed the baseball to centerfield and the Sea Dogs took the 8-1 lead in the second inning. They were able to hold on for the 8-3 victory in the first game. Hernandez also went 1-for-3 in game two of the doubleheader with a single and run scored.
MATTHEW KENT DOES NOT ISSUE FREE PASSES - Lefty reliever Matthew Kent has not issued a walk since 6/6. During that time he has pitched 20.1 innings allowing 13 runs (eight earned) on 24 hits while striking out 11. He has limited opponents to a .300 batting average.
ON THE MOUND - RHP Josh Winckowski will start for the Sea Dogs this afternoon. He pitched in game one of the series 7/6 and tossed 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out three. Winckowski walked four batters for the first time 2021 debut 5/6 vs NH. He has faced the Yard Goats three times and is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA. In total, he has pitched 19.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out 16 while limiting the Yard Goats to .123 batting average.ÃÂ
