Jr. Blues Win

Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
It has been the coldest day of this season with temperatures in the low 30's when we headed to the rink for the morning skate. The way the guys talked you would have thought it was 40 below and they had no warm clothing to wear. Then, as the old saying goes; "some would complain if they were hung with a new rope". It was funny to listen to them anyway. I was comfortable. Yes, it warmed my heart to listen to the humor
We headed out yesterday at noon from the Nelson Center for the shores of Lake Huron. What seemed like a two day trip was only 8 hours with a stop for sustenance. Bus travel just isn't what it used to be. There was no singing, laughing, fun and games. We watched movies or read, but it seemed more quiet than usual. I think each player was lost in his own thoughts about the coming weekend series.
Breakfast was called at 8:00 am due to the available ice time for pre game skate. That is 7:00 am back home. That might have been the reason for some of the growling. It was all good natured though, and added some humor to the day.
There are two press boxes in the arena, but no room in the inn for me to broadcast FASTHockey. Adaptability is always the watchword when you visit another's home turf. I'll be broadcasting from a seat in front of the press box and I don't mind a bit. I like to have space for myself. This arena holds around 3000 and is 50 years old, but as the Fighting Falcons are yet to win a game, there are many fewer fans expected.
The teams are out for warm ups. Let's go Blues! We need a sweep this weekend!
The game did not start off well for the good guys as the Falcons scored 27 seconds into the game. Chris Sitler evened it up at one apiece at the 45 second mark, and that is the way it stood until Gavin Tufte took a rebound and pounded it into the net to put the Jr. Blues up 2 - 1. The Falcons received a penalty for cross checking as the horn sounded to end the first period, so the good guys get another power play to start the second.
A couple of different things occurred during the first intermission. They had a hot dog eating contest at center ice and it was excruciating as three guys ate their hot dogs. It was like watching paint dry! We do not want to see this at the Nellie! A fan was selected though to ride the zamboni during the intermission and that might be something for us to consider doing in the future. In the mean time, the Jr. Blues lead, but need to get after it if they want to win this game. So, what's left to say at this point but, Let's Go Blues! The second period is on the way, and we'll start the first two minutes with a man advantage.
The second period saw the Jr. Blues add another goal to go up 3 - 1. The game has progressed at a fast pace and all of a sudden the zamboni is dressing the ice for the third. The Blues dodged a few close calls on some shots during the second, but so far they are playing well. We now get ready to start the third and final period. The Jr. Blues lead 3 - 1 and will need to pick it up some with passing. They have played a good game and are fighting hard to win. All that's left to say is Let's Go Blues!
The third period was played just as quickly as the first two, and the action picked up with a break away by the Falcons. Just as they scored their goal my electrical cord came unplugged in the press box and I hurried to correct the power outage. We returned power and I sat down to pick up the broadcast again when I suddenly realized the good guys had already answered Port Huron with a goal of their own. Both of the Fighting Falcons goals were answered by the Jr. Blues in less than a minute, and kept them at bay.
By the end of the game the Blues had scored again to make the final score 5 - 2. It was a sweet win, and we hope to make it even sweeter with two more before we leave town. The first and second stars of the game were Jr. Blues with Gavin Tufte and Chris Sitler taking the honors.
We'll be on the air with FASTHockey at 7:00 pm Saturday night for game two of this three game series so join us, won't you? Jr. Blues hockeyThe Coolest Game in Town!
