Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues, while getting ready for this year's playoffs, are also looking to the future. The club announced today that it has offered tenders to two players for next season. The two are: Brian Post, currently playing with the Cleveland Barons AAA Midget Major team and Nick Curry, who is currently with the AAA Colorado Rampage Midget Major team
Post, 18, is a 5'10", 175lb forward and is leading Cleveland in the points column with 37 goals and 39 assists , for a total of 76 points in 63 games. He scored 8 power play goals and 2 short-handed goals while picking up 165 penalty minutes for the Barons. His plus/minus rating was +28. He is from Parma, Ohio.
Nick Curry, 18, is a 6'0", 180lb forward who tallied 19 goals, and 18 assists for 37 points in 34 games . He also played 8 games with the Bismarck Bobcats, netting 2 goals and an assist while there. He is from Bettendorf, Iowa.
"We are really excited about tendering these two players", says coach Chris Wyler. " Both of these kids have the ability to step in and help us right away next year. They are highly skilled and both have a knack of finding the back of the net with the puck just about every time they strap the skates on".
After the dismal 2006-2007 season, Wyler took over with eight games left in the season, winning six of them. However, at season's end, he was left with zero tenders and zero draft picks-not a good situation for any new coach. A year later, the team finds itself in the playoffs and ending the season with nine tenders and all of its draft picks still available.
"We now have some ammunition to go out and secure some of the best talent in the country. What a difference a year makes", added new assistant coach Andy Maher. Maher will have an important role in the recruitment process and will spend much of his free time scouting midget and tier III Jr. teams.
A tender is a commitment - not a guarantee - to a player. That player still has to come to camp and make the team. Wyler points out that 2 tenders that came to the Main camp didn't make this years squad. Looks like competition will be fierce for the 25 roster spots next year. Go Blues!
